This month Lew Blodgett turned 99 years old. He was honored with his induction into "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine".
This is the highest recognition level bestowed on a North Carolina resident.
Members of this prestigious society include Colin Powell, Maya Angelou and Dale Earnhardt to name just a few. The certificate was signed by Gov. Roy Cooper. Lew is the oldest member of the CMC Club and still does weekly trail maintenance with Roy Davis. He joined CMC over 50 years ago. Lew has logged in over 4000 hours of A.T. trail maintenance. |
Mel Skiles is Awarded 2021 Blue Ridge Parkway Individual Volunteer of the Year Award.
Rachel Stasny, Chief of Staff of the Blue Ridge Parkway National Park, presented a letter and plaque to Mel.
Mel is a regular on the Asheville Thursday crew & section maintainer on the MST from Fish Pond Road to Sweeten Creek Road. This is a very popular section with hikers and local residents since it is on the Parkway in the heart of Asheville. Mel has been a CMC volunteer since 2012 and has already logged over 500 trail maintenance hours this year. |
