Hike - Save Trails - Make Friends
The Carolina Mountain Club, now over 80 years old and the oldest Hiking and Trail Maintaining Club in Western NC fosters the enjoyment of the mountains of Western North Carolina and adjoining regions. We:
• lead 175 hikes per year,
• maintain 400 miles of trail,
• have an active program to build new trails,
• promote the conservation of the trails and natural scenery in our area,
• educate our members on hiking, trail building and maintenance skills,
• work with the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, and the
State of North Carolina to achieve these goals.
We invite you to join us for a hike or to help build or maintain a hiking trail. Click the links on the left to learn more.
New CMC Website Coming Soon
CMC has contracted to have a new website built for us that will help enhance our ability to serve our members and hikers throughout western North Carolina. We would like to thank Don Walton for his many hours and years of building our current website. Although the new website will appear quite different on the surface, the core of the website will still contain much of the design, content and inspiration that Don provided and we continue to enjoy.

Important Notice for hike meeting place: The meeting place for Westgate hikes has been changed to the far back (northern end) of the Westgate parking lot. We have been using Westgate Shopping Plaza as a meeting place for a number of years. The owners are planning new buildings at Westgate which will impact our use of the parking space there. For the time being we can continue to leave cars there for our day of hiking. Hikers and hike leaders should let each other know now and park in the new area (for us). There's a map at the bottom of the Westgate Directions page. e-mail: cmcinfo@carolinamtnclub.org
